Pasqualina is 81 years old, she is an elegant, delicate and mischievous lady with a witty sense of humor which helps ease her situation. Since she has been living in an elder care home for the past few years. She has no living relatives. Then there is Petrolina, best known as Pety. She is 10 years old and is determined, a dreamer and has an array of playful activities that make her an active and creative participant in the world. At school she is assigned an activity with the theme “Grandparents”. Pety resents being the only girl in class that doesn’t have a grandmother. Pasqualina flees from the elderly care facility to go on an adventure. and meets Pety. This chance meeting creates a mutual desire in both to form a family.

The film is based on the book with the same name written by Jarred Amarante and tells the true story of the love between Miguel e Aaron, two evangelical boys that met at the church that they attend. Miguel is the son of a pastor and suffers from the intolerance of his religion at home. Aaron manages to deal better with his sexuality and does everything to help Miguel see the Bible and God as symbols of love.

Manlio works at a ballroom. He is sad and melancholic. Maria lives in quasi servitude to her selfish brothers. On a given day, a very charismatic priest entrusts them to take the sacred host for the communion of elderly and sick homebound individuals. When Maria and Manlio’s paths cross they embark on a love story that has unexpected consequences. This all takes place in the desolate landscape of Messina in Sicily, Italy.
